Omega-3 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, a substance that the body cannot synthesize and must be incorporated through the diet. It is present in fish (usually oily fish) and in some plant seeds such as flax, chia, and walnuts. There are six types of Omega-3 fatty acids, all of which are based on alpha-linolenic acid (LNA).
